We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andrea Klein. She was energetic, passionate, brave, honest, and cheerful, and the Festival has been a very honored recipient of her enormous generosity. Andrea was an enthusiastic Festival volunteer and longtime member of the annual benefit committee. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with her got to experience her  unique personality firsthand; her drive and dedication were unmatched, and an inspiration to us all.

Andrea was especially passionate about the Festival’s education programs, and her work on the benefit committee helped raise funds to support school partnerships and free field trip screenings for Title 1 public school students. The Festival is honored to continue this effort in Andrea’s memory to allow more students to participate in our hands-on filmmaking camps through the Andrea Klein Scholarship Fund.

In weeklong filmmaking camps, students ages 6 to 16 work with professional filmmakers and arts educators to learn the filmmaking process and create a short film in various types of animation including stop motion, claymation, cutout animation, and pixilation. Working collaboratively, students gain skills in media arts, media literacy, and storytelling to produce creative and unique films that premiere at the annual Festival. Full scholarships will allow students with limited resources to participate in this valuable creative experience.
